Do you have a favorite dinner place?
I think so. I was inspired by a small Chinese restaurant's business in Munich called Ledu. One day, I made the decision to create a new style for their website and make it more user-friendly.
The product
The problem
Website of the Chinese Dumplings restaurant chain in Munich, featuring information about the philosophy, news, and restaurant branches.
On the website, it is not possible to find the menu and review it before visiting the restaurant. Additionally, Ledu offers a restaurant format that allows reservations, but it is challenging to locate this feature on the website. The navigation is cumbersome, and the site fails to reflect the brand style and concept of the establishments.
The logo is quite complex, and when scaled down, it becomes less noticeable.
Low contrast between the photo and logo hinders the correct understanding of the text
Users primarily search for the menu on the restaurant's website. Unfortunately, they have to go a long way to find it
Before redesign
Mood board
The majority of the restaurant chain consists of small self-service cafes with neon signs and bright colors and patterns. Therefore, I wanted to infuse the atmosphere of Chinese street food. I added vibrant posters, bold signs with Chinese characters, and images from Peking opera.
Wireframes
The number of pages on the website remains the same. Access to the menu of a specific restaurant is available on the homepage. The menu is displayed in PDF format due to frequent updates.
Design
In the new version of the website, I added dropdown menus for restaurants on the homepage. By selecting a restaurant and clicking on the CTA button, the user opens a PDF version of the selected restaurant's menu.
The "Philosophy" section on the website is executed in the form of a traditional Chinese paper lantern, symbolizing traditions and values.
Restaurant cards now include photos, addresses, and transportation options for convenience in making choices. The Ledu news page is designed in a newspaper style to visually support the overall aesthetic.
Additionally, a dedicated page has been created for the restaurant, where users can view the menu and make reservations. To enhance user communication with the restaurant regarding important matters, I made the contact form more prominent.
